- Strong, powerful base position as much/often as possible to hit from - kientic chain of energy starting from the ground upwards
- Hands working well together, powerfully, gaining plenty from bottom hand especially, through the ball quickly from backswing through to completion (all the way through the shot)
- Drive hands powerfully through the ball, complimented by maximum velocity from right hip

Batting Skills Set @ Headingley
Session Plan/Objective: White Ball. Playing positively for the two scenarios given, counter attacking the bowler and field placings provided in an effort to hit in different areas and play freely, scoring quickly. Looking for positive intent and the willingness to hit all around the ground. Scenario 1: Overs 1-10 Scenario 2: Overs 11-20 - Found it difficult to get hands through the ball and generate sufficient power to hit over the infield. Heavy bat? unbalanced positions
- Very keen to 'fall' down the wicket at balls and as such was heavily reliant on hands to work well to generate the power for him rather than his entire body, but hands rarely got through the ball fast enough to hit powerfully (looked a little sluggish - could have been as a result v seam of advancing consistently, and having less time to hit, and hit well). Seemed to lack the belief that he had the ability to achieve the objectives and sufficient intent to execute shots. - Rarely tried going aerial (Heavy bat?). - Lacked decisiveness and commitment v RA seam. Plans/Tactical approach? Where is he looking to get the ball, does he have clear 'go-to' hitting options - can he work out what the bowler is looking to do? By reading into field placings, can help aid his tactical approach to understand the bowlers plans. - v Merlin towards the end became more confident, found more belief when really encouraged to express and as such hit the ball better. Confidence from a couple out of the middle? |

Batting Skills Set @ Headingley
Session Plan/Objective: Red ball. Focusing on being prepared to bat time, to build an innings without the added pressure to score runs at a good/quick rate. Show a willingness to leave the ball & to be proactive with plans/tactical approach. |

- Left the ball well.
- Played very well down the ground, good sign head was remaining upright sufficiently enough to allow. Even balls angled towards the legs, still aimed to get the ball straight and towards mid-wicket and as such tended to get a good contact more often than not, courtesy of the full face coming through.
- Tendency to use the pace of the ball mainly on the back foot and encouraged hands to open face guiding behind square. More balls with the full face, less risk in front of square.
- Tentative stride on occasions front foot but didn’t really get troubled a great deal. Getting out closer to good & full'ish balls = more opportunity to put hands through and score off
- Second round saw an improvement on back foot with more balls played in front of square as a result of getting in behind the ball outside off stump rather than playing away from the body and using the pace to guide backward square. Front foot was left open every now and then which encourages hands to come across the ball slightly (to balls off stump & just outside).
- Still a little tentative on occasions front foot, almost half committing to the shot at times making late on the shot, although ball was set at a challenging pace. Commit to the shot more, through being more decisive.
