Feedback:
Likes to play positively and get his hands through the ball quite quickly. Demonstrated a good ability to hit the ball well on most occasions. Bat lift in setup is quite wide but does correct somewhat into back-swing and can gain a good contact on the ball. Strong bottom hand which can tend to create a 'pulling' affect with the bottom hand dragging a little leg side |
Feedback:
Very strong outside off-stump and when being well balanced (back foot not slipping leg-side) showed he can get in some good positions and play some fantastic shots. Comes a little un-stuck to balls attacking thus stumps and asking good questions, as can fall over slightly with head going off-side, back foot slipping leg side and creating an imbalance which effectively puts an obstacle in the way of playing the ball well with weight distributed towards different angles. |
Opportunities for improvement:
- Try to setup with bat a bit straighter (simplified and allowing for the best chance possible of gaining a good contact through the ball on downswing) - Try to gain more strength from top hand, wrist and forearm in an effort to allow hands to work together and 'time' through the ball effectively (currently very bottom hand dominant - meaning power, but perhaps not quite as much control as ideal on occasions). - Gets a good stride in towards the pitch of the ball, but can often brace his front leg which prevents his weight transferring through the ball on contact, and thus making more susceptible to chipping balls up by making contact away from body to balls of a good'ish length (can get away with this when ball is very full as doesn't have the opportunity to bounce off the surface and start rising). |
Opportunities for improvement:
- Head/eyes remaining level/upright as much/often as possible, providing the opportunity to setup well balanced, strong positions. - Attempt to remain as well balanced as possible when playing the shot, this can be achieved more often by keeping back foot still ideally but raised up onto toes to allow weight to propel forwards and transfer through the ball. - Similar to Finlay, did show on the odd occasion to not quite bend his front knee to allow weight through the ball and head over more - and made more susceptible to making contact away from body when the bat is on the upswing. Concentrate on gaining a good stride (can do at times) and bending front knee to allow weight through consistently. |
