BATTING:
Good hand eye, can get out of jail at times outside the off-stump when his footwork doesn't necessarily get him as close to the ball as he could, or may wish to. Can get in some good positions but can lack a little intent with his stride on the front foot which can find him out on the odd occasion by playing a bit out in front of his body. He often has his hands working well together and even when looking to be positive and put his hands through the ball, he tends to keep them in rhythm and maintain the shape of the bat gaining the full face through on contact (front & back foot). Back foot he was selective and picked up the line well, calculating when he was presented with sufficient width to cut the ball square, or when closer to his body only just outside off-stump, opted to go straighter with the bat and played well. Opportunities for improvement: - Work with a comfortable stride front foot. Being decisive, picking up the balls of good - full'ish length and then committing courtesy of a good, purposeful stride on the front foot. - Don't be afraid of putting hands through the ball if calculated it is a ball in half volley territory which he could look to score from - can time very well, but look to be positive and play to his strengths. - Back Foot - when outside off stump and looking to play straight (defending, or punching) try to be as side on as possible to enable the hands to flow through the ball to maintain the full face through as much/often as possible. |
BOWLING:
Elliot has a good ability to turn the ball consistently well. His fingers work well around the ball and wrist cocked nicely to establish a strong release from his hand. He can tend to become very straight with his bowling arm which can create quite a bit of loop on occasions when he doesn't quite drive through in his delivery stride, having spoken about his release point he understands how aiming to work with his arm at more 1 o'clock than 12 can benefit him (as spoken about with Simon also) in benefiting through side spin and potential drift with a different trajectory at release. Elliot has tended to come into his delivery stride from quite a sharp angle when seen previously, but this is clearly something he has worked at and is a little straighter now which will benefit him (especially in driving through his action without quite so much "blocking off" with his front leg getting across himself). Opportunities for improvement: - Try to ensure not blocking off into delivery stride, to enable hip drive and full body rotation - Aiming to create a slightly more beneficial angle towards the batsman (slightly more awkward trajectory, and opportunity for side spin) try to feel more towards 1 o'clock for release point than 12, straight over the top. - Ensure full body rotation through 180 degrees - not just half way through action |
